Thales von Milet, a Greek philosopher and mathematician, made an astounding discovery back in 600 BC: He rubbed a piece of amber on an animal fur. Then small feathers and pieces of straw for instance, clung to it. However, Milet was not yet able to explain this phenomenon. But it was the origin of the discovery of electricity.
